To all the staff caring for Maureen Kadri at Haym Solomon,

On behalf of my mom, Maureen Kadri, and my entire family, I would like to thank the staff at Haym Solomon for the beautiful care and rehabilitation that she has received.

It’s funny how often one can take their health for granted. We were completely caught off guard and unprepared when my mom had to enter the rehab facility. As you know, my sister and I stayed overnight in the early days during the time when she was in so much pain. It is so terribly hard to see your loved one when they’re in pain and so extremely vulnerable. It even feels harder to imagine knowing she was a caregiver for the majority of her life, and we were just hoping that she would receive care that would match the care that she imparted to others for more than 50 years.

My sister and I had a firsthand view of meticulous skin care, expertise in maneuvering and transferring, medication delivery, and kindness with every half-hour wellness check.

My sister and I tried to help when we were there; however, we were most grateful for all the work you did when we weren’t there—the work you did that we did not see, but that my mother saw and appreciated.

I know many of you are unknown to me, but you should know that you are all in my prayers, as our gratitude could never quite be effectively conveyed in a few words.

The place is beautiful. It is kept spotless. I know I wrote this in my review, but we kept our own Lysol wipes to clean surfaces while we were there and often would clean a windowsill or above a picture frame, and I would always expect to find dust—and alas, it was always, always clean. The routines and the processes that you have in place are indeed working.

I did not have the privilege of witnessing my mother in action on the eighth floor; however, I am told by her personally that if it were not for MJ, she would not be where she is today. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the work that you do every single day, not only for my mom, but for every vulnerable person who may or may not have family able to express the words that we are able to share today. I think it is the work that goes unnoticed that counts the most, and it is obvious that that is the work you are doing daily.

Thank you for letting us come in on Christmas Eve and spread some cheer to the sixth floor. “Santa” and the family loved meeting all the residents, and I believe the feeling was mutual. I do hope we can keep the tradition alive and come back next year. Thank you for having faith in us as a family and allowing us to do that. I love when cultures and religions can come together respectfully of one another—this is the healing and growth that no one speaks about, and yet there it was on full display at Haym Solomon.

Thank you to every department. In no particular order (I hesitate to start naming as I do not want to forget anyone), thank you to the eighth floor and the rehab department, the nutrition department and the kitchen staff, all the cleaning staff, all the nurses and patient care technicians, the security staff, the social services department, the art director who gave my mom a beautiful photo, the activities director (we think the bingo prize should be increased to $0.50, lol), and the doctors. I know there are probably others that I have not named, but I promise I will be praying for all of you in gratitude. We have even joked that we will be checking her in once or twice a year for vacation.

Please take care of yourselves and remember how impactful your work is. The privilege of this work is that even though we are paid, we will be rewarded in another life for the good work we do in caring for others—at least that is my belief, and I know you will be rewarded for the care that you gave my mom.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Lara Kadri Tregillies
