Back injuries can lead to problems anywhere along the spine, from the neck to the tailbone. You may feel pain in the bones, joints, discs, and/or the muscles and ligaments holding the spine together.
Minor injuries are usually the result of everyday wear and tear, overuse or muscle strain. Moderate to serious injuries often occur after a fall. The most serious injuries are caused by a direct blow to the spine and need urgent medical attention.
Certain medical conditions may cause or worsen existing spinal injuries. For example, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and spine deformities can make a back injury worse.
